Aerial Makalua
From Way Up High
Aerial Makalua Wall Art | Maui Aerial Ocean Photography
I'll never get tired of how different the ocean looks from above. I was flying over Maui's coastline with my drone when the shallows below opened up into turquoise, deep blue, and white sand. Makalua from the air is a whole different world than the one you walk into.
Aerial shots of Maui's reefs are some of my favorites to make, because they reveal the island's hidden geography — the channels, the coral heads, the colors layering over each other. This one caught the water at its most painterly.
What Makes This Photo So Special?
A Reef Revealed: From above, the reef becomes abstract art — shapes and colors you'd never guess sit just feet below the surface.
Layered Blues: That gradient from sand-white to deep ocean blue is pure Maui, shifting with the light.
The Drone's Eye: It took planning and patience — and one clean morning when wind and water cooperated.
Bring this bird's-eye view of Maui's coastline into your home — the island as even most locals never see it.
