The wiliwili is one of Hawaii’s most distinctive native trees — twisted, sculptural, and found nowhere else on earth. Photographed at night under a sky full of stars, its bare branches look almost lit from within, reaching up while the universe turns slowly overhead.
Night photography like this takes patience: the tree has to be found, framed, and lit just right while the sky does its work above it. The result is a portrait of a threatened native species in a setting most people never get to see.
Ancient Roots: The wiliwili is endemic to Hawaii and a threatened species, its twisted form shaped by the dryland forests found nowhere else.
Night Sky: Long-exposure technique gathers starlight the eye alone can barely hold onto, turning the sky itself into part of the composition.
Sculptural Form: Lit from below, every twist of the branches stands out — the tree becomes architecture against the dark.
Bring a piece of Hawaii’s wild night into your home — ancient, rare, and quietly glowing.
