There is something about a palapa — those thatched shelters on the sand — that says vacation like nothing else. Photograph them under a galaxy-filled sky, and they become something more: little shelters for dreamers, silhouetted against the universe. I set up for this shot after the beach emptied, letting the long exposure build the star field while the palapas stood dark and still in the foreground.
It is the ultimate escape image — tropical shelter below, infinite stars above. The contrast between the humble thatched roof and the vastness of the galaxy is what gives this piece its soul.
Thatched Silhouettes: The palapas' iconic shapes in dark relief against the night sky.
A River of Stars: The Milky Way built up over a long, patient exposure.
The Empty Beach: Shot after hours, when the sand is quiet and the sky takes over.
Bring this dreamy night into your home — palapas under the galaxy, and the promise of nowhere to be.
